_GFWC Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs membership ranges from ages 12 to 100.
Almost 8000 women, in about 250 clubs, throughout the state of Illinois, in small towns and big cities, have found fun and fellowship working together with over 100,000 women world wide to improve their communities and support charities and important causes. In the past GFWC has supported the installation of street lights nationwide, the painting of white lines in the center of highways, the installation of seat belts in our automobiles, supported soldiers and veterans, and worked to fight child abuse to name just a few of our programs.
The GFWC Illinois State Project is: Our Promise A Safe Place for Every Child (prevention of child abuse). Today the signature project of all GFWC clubs worldwide is to work to fight domestic violence, because THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR ABUSE.

THE GENERAL FEDERATION OF WOMEN'S CLUBS (GFWC)
Is one of the world's largest and oldest women's volunteer service organizations. Working locally through thousands of clubs in the United States and globally in more than 20 countries, GFWC members support the arts, preserve natural resources, promote education, encourage healthy lifestyles, stress civic involvement, and work toward world peace and understanding.
Clubs shape their local agendas to suit particular community needs. Each local chapter benefits from membership, service, material, and program support from state and national Federation levels. GFWC headquarters in Washington, DC, a National Historic Landmark, houses the Women's History and Resource Center, a collection of books, periodicals and records devoted to women's history and women in volunteerism.
Illinois is proud to have 250 clubs and almost 8000 members of GFWC working hard to improve their communities. Our clubs have three levels of membership: General, Junior, and Juniorette. The Juniorettes are for girls 13-18 yrs. of age. In the past there were age limits on the Juniors, being designed for the young homemakers. However those age restrictions were removed from the clubs years ago. In practice, the Junior clubs often meet at night as a convenience for working women, and the Generals often meet during the day.
