Early History
Founding: February 20, 1928, under the leadership of Mrs. Kathryn Schuppert who was 14th District President at the time. Charter Members were: Mrs. A. O. Kline, President; Mrs. Lloyd Van Winkle, Vice President; Mrs. Earl Doak, Secretary: Mrs. C. D. Eshelman, Treasurer: Mrs. Keith Balmer, Mrs. C. D. Miner, Mrs. R. E. Millson, Mrs. G. L. Swango, and Mrs. L Knoedler.
Philanthropy: The club has always had an interest in philanthropic projects. Bridge parties were sponsored to help needy families with Christmas boxes, packages to Hines Hospital and the McDonough County orphanage. Contributions were made to the Kathryn Schuppert Loan Fund which gave aid to needy students.
World War II: During the early 40's money allocated to Guest Day Teas was put into Defense Stamps. War Bonds were purchased, and members devoted many hours to Red Cross and USO projects.
Youth: Youth have always interested the club. Through the years the club gave generously to scholarships in Music, Art, and Conservation. Money was also donated to the United Way, Macomb Beautiful, Cancer Fund, Heart Fund, and Youth Services Bureau. Federation donations were Pennies for Art, Veterans Hospital in Illinois, Brain Research Foundation, New Hope Lodge, Kathryn Schuppert Loan Fund, Forest Planting, and Latin American Student Exchange.
